The Top Ten things I had to pretty much figure out for myself. In all the lessons I had as trying to learn how to play, most teachers seemed focused on something other than playing. One wanted me to learn jazz, one fusion, one wanted to mess with hand positions, one wanted me to play true to the original versions of songs that HE liked. And while I did learn some things in the time, and certainly there was more to each teacher than the above "focus area". But none of them focused on what helped me really get better fundamentally. But, in the overall scheme of things, hard work good, hard work fine, but first take care of head. Not that! I mean thinking. And while some of what you read may seem simple, knowing something and actually responding in kind are often two different things. Assess, Plan and Execute; rinse and repeat forever. The essays to the left are to that end. |
